The mixed congee is a true winter comfort. With rich tastes and nutrition from various grains, beans and seeds, the congee is also a benefit for beauty and children’s intelligence development. The word “Laba” means 8th of the last month in the traditional Chinese calendar, mostly in the middle of winter. Serving Laba Congee on this day suggests the start of preparation for the Chinese lunar New Year.

1/2 oz. white kidney bean (Navy bean)
1/2 oz. azuki bean (Asian variety of small, red bean)

1/2 oz. chestnut
1/2 oz. lotus seed
1/2 oz. lily bulb (dried)
1 oz. Chinese date (small and dried)
