Salted Caramel Apple Dip and Sauce

There is something about this sweet and salty homemade caramel that is just divine. Make a batch then store it in your fridge for up to a month (although I can guarantee it won't last that long) so that you can grab it out for a quick snack with apples, or to drizzle on ice cream or even french toast!

1/4 cup water
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter, cut into 8 pieces
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ tsp salt
