A delicious take on the classic hot cross bun – moist and tender orange-infused spiced muffins studded with chocolate chips, topped with a cross and glazed with golden syrup!

For the Muffins
3 cups (375g) plain flour
¾ cup (170g) caster sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon mixed spice
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup (175g) chocolate chips
Zest of one large orange
1 large egg, room temperature
¼ cup (60ml) orange juice
1 cup (240ml) buttermilk
½ cup (100ml) vegetable oil
For the Crosses and Glaze
2 tablespoons plain flour
1 - 2 tablespoons cold water
Golden syrup, to glaze
