1 pound Great Northern white beans, washed and picked clean of debris
5 strips of bacon, cut into ½-inch ribbons
1 medium white or yellow onion, chopped
3 large garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon dry oregano
2 large bay leaves
8 cups low-sodium chicken broth, plus more broth or water as needed
