Dahi Bhallay (Savory lentil balls dipped in yogurt sauce)

Dahi bhallay is one of the favorite food item in Pakistan and north India. I loveee dahi ballay, the flavors of this famous street food delicacy are satisfying, addictive and hard to resist.

Ingredients for Bhallay:
1 cup gram lentil (yellow urad/maash dal) washed, soaked overnight
1/2 teaspoon ginger paste
1/2 teaspoon cayenne powder,
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
1 green chilli (optional)
1/2 teaspoon red chilli flakes (optional)
2 pinches of baking soda
oil for frying
Ingredients for yogurt sauce:
3 cups curd/yogurt
1 cup water
2 teaspoons chaat masala (store bought or homemade)
1 tablespoon sugar
¼ to ½ tsp red chili powder or as required
salt as required
Toppings (optional or to taste):
1 boiled potato (cut in small cubes)
1/2 onion chopped
1 tomato chopped
1 – 2 green chili chopped
Mint chutney & tamarind chutney (can be made in advance and refrigerated)
Tamarind chutney substitute = sweet and sour dipping sauce
