Fresh Tomato Marinara Sauce

This recipe is a great way to use up fresh tomatoes - can be made in the crock pot or on the stove.

12-14 tomatoes, which yields- 3 1/2 cups fresh tomatoes, peeled, seeded, squeezed and squashed {sounds awesome, doesn't it?!} Any variety- I used some early girl and roma tomatoes.
OR... 2 (14.5 ounce) cans stewed or diced tomatoes
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
4 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 cup finely diced onion
1/2 cup white wine
1 bay leaf
2 TBSP brown sugar
1 TBSP balsamic vinegar {optional}
