Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cake

This is an old family favorite to take to a potluck or a picnic and share. These are incredibly moist and taste better than brownies. Even my pickiest son enjoyed these. He wouldn't believe me when I told him there was oatmeal in them!

1 3/4 C boiling water
1 C uncooked oatmeal
1 C brown sugar
1 C white sugar
1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa
1 /2 C butter or margarine
2 eggs
1 3/4 C flour
1 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
1 1/4 C chocolate chips
3/4 C walnuts or pecans chopped (optional)
1 C uncooked oatmeal
1 C brown sugar
1 C white sugar
1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa
1 /2 C butter or margarine
2 eggs
1 3/4 C flour
1 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
1 1/4 C chocolate chips
3/4 C walnuts or pecans chopped (optional)
Pour water over oatmeal and let it stand for 10 minutes. Add sugar and butter to the oatmeal; stir until butter melts. Add eggs and mix. Combine all dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix well. Stir in 3/4 C chocolate chips. Pour batter into a greased and floured 9x13 pan. Sprinkle nuts and remaining chocolate chips on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.
