Shirley's Banana Bread

My grandmother Shirley was a wonderful cook with many tips and secrets. There are a couple of secrets to getting great banana bread. Check out the recipe to see what they are!

1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening (butter flavor is best)
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1 1/2 tablespoons buttermilk OR `1 1/2 tablespoons milk mixed with 1 teaspoon vinegar
1 teaspoon baking soda dissolved in 1 1/2 tablespoons buttermilk or water
4 bananas, well ripened and mashed
Pre­heat oven to 335 degrees (if your oven will not let you adjust to this tem­per­a­ture, 350 will work, just keep a close eye on the bread). Pre­pare bread pans with cook­ing spray or parch­ment paper...
