Slow-Cooked Lamb Shanks with Spiced Chickpea Stew

Lamb shanks are slow cooked in a casserole pot alongside a simple spiced chickpea stew. Everything cooks together allowing the flavours to combine – producing a wonderfully comforting meal – perfect for those cooler evenings

For the marinade:
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 cloves garlic ( minced )
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons oil
2 lamb shanks
For the spiced chickpea stew:
2 tablespoons oil
2 teaspoons mustard seed
2 teaspoons turmeric
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon dried chili flakes ( )
2 onions ( sliced )
2 cans chickpeas ( liquid drained )
salt and pepper to taste
lemon juice to taste
For the mint yoghurt:
100 grams natural yoghurt
10 grams mint ( chopped )
2 tablespoons lemon juice
salt and pepper to taste
