Spiced Caramel Apple Crisp

A delightful twist to your typical apple crisp!

1 cup dark brown sugar
3/4 cup butter
1/4 cup butter shortening
1 Tablespoon vanilla
1- 3/4 all-purpose flour
1- 1/2 cups quick-cooking oats
1 cup chopped pecans
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon allspice
5 cups thinly sliced apples (I used a mix of Granny smith, Braeburn and Gala)
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 bag (14 ounces) caramels
1 cup jarred caramel sauce
3/4 cup butter
1/4 cup butter shortening
1 Tablespoon vanilla

1- 1/2 cups quick-cooking oats
1 cup chopped pecans
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon allspice

1 bag (14 ounces) caramels
1 cup jarred caramel sauce
1. Heat oven to 400ºF.
2. Mix brown sugar, butter and shortening and vanilla in large bowl.
3. Toss together the 1-3/4 cups flour, the oats, salt, baking soda, pecans and spices. Using a fork, mix together the butter/sugar mixture with the oat mixture. Reserve 2 cups oat mixture; press remaining oat mixture in greased 9x13 inch pan.
4. Slice the apples and toss with 3 tablespoons flour and 1-1/2 Tablespoons cinnamon; spread over mixture in pan.
5. Heat caramels according to package; pour evenly over apples. Drizzle with caramel sauce.
6. Sprinkle with reserved oat mixture and press lightly.
7. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown and apples are tender. Store covered in refrigerator.
