The Best PA Dutch Apple Dumplings

These mouth watering small apple pies are found in the PA Dutch country and are not only a dessert, but many times would be eaten as a main dish at supper/dinner time. They can be eaten just so, with ice cream, or in PA Dutch land, you warm them, cut them all up, and put milk on top. They freeze well.

DOUGH
2 c flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c shortening
1/3 c cold water

FILLING
8 to 12 medium sized tart baking apples-cored and peeled
8 tsp. of butter
8 tsp. brown sugar
8 heaping T of sugar/flour mixture

WHITE SUGAR/FLOUR MIXTURE
1 T cinnamon
9 T white sugar
3 T flour
